The Launch of the Derbyshire Cycling Plan 2016-2030 - Derby Arena
Hello sports fans,
Last evening, I travelled to the Derby Arena, the new indoor cycling track and other facilities to capture images of the Launch of the Derbyshire Cycling Plan 2016-2030 on behalf of Derbyshire Sport. This was my first time in the Arena albeit I have been many times to the iPro Stadium next door photographing Derby County FC. The facility is excellent and provided some fantastic imagery of riders, demonstrations and presentations.
The Derbyshire Cycling Plan 2016-2030 aims to establish Derbyshire as one of the most connected and integrated for cycling in England and recognised as a cycling destination around the world. The partners aim to have more people of all ages and abilities cycling regularly for leisure, active travel, commuting and sport.
There were a number of cycling demonstrations to engage the 200 plus guests including Extreme Wheels, Adam Morewood and the Team Raleigh riders to name a few. They all provided a great show of skill and courage with bikes jumping, leaping and balancing on or over various objects like staging and a vehicle. There was one brave gentleman that laid on the floor whilst allowing a skilful rider jump his bike over his body from all directions at speed without even a graze to him, very impressive.
Once the guests were entertained and had a chance to meet fellow interested people in cycling, they were asked to make their way to the track side seating to learn more about the 2016-2030 Derbyshire Cycling Plan and what it will achieve during its life. Various guest speakers emphasised the various themes from health to sport and transport to leisure. At the end of the presentations the host asked for the commitment of all the guests to contribute and deliver the plan and by working together the plan will not only succeed, it will make the county a safer and two-wheeled pedal power county enjoyed by all.
The cycling track provided many great opportunities to capture exciting imagery and a selection of images can be seen on this website. The image below is one of Team Raleigh riders on the track.
