Hello sports fans,

On Tuesday, I travelled to East Anglia and the Snetterton Racing Circuit for the 2016 British GT Championships Media Day in which we learned all about the upcoming 2016 season, the teams and drivers and captured some of the pre-season testing of the new and revamped GT's.

For over 20 years the British GT Championship has been an intrinsic part of the UK's national motorsport fabric and with the Championship continually evolving its hard to envisage a more competitive season than the current GT3/4 format. The British GT Championship is promoted and organised by SRO Motorsports Group and lead by its founder and Chairman Stephane Ratel.

The 2016 British GT Championship sticks with its tried and tested seven-venue format, nine round schedule and comprises of a mixture of two, three hour races. The 2016 calendar is:

  • Round 1 - April 16th/17th - Brands Hatch GP (2 Hour Race)
  • Round 2 - April 30th/May 1st - Rockingham  (2 Hour Race)
  • Round 3/4 - May 28/30th - Oulton Park (2x 1 Hour Race)
  • Round 5 - June 11/12th - Silverstone 500 (3 Hour Race)

  • Round 7/8 - August 6/7th - Snetterton (2x 1 Hour Race)
  • Round 9 - September 10th/11th - Donington Park (2 Hour Race)

The 2016 British GT Championship includes two classes GT3 and GT4 with the following Championships up for grabs:

  • GT3 Team Championship - (the 2015 Champions : Barwell Motorsport)

  • GT4 Pro/Am Championship  - (the 2015 Champions : Oz Yusuf and Gavan Kershaw)

The media day opened with a World Exclusive - the unveiling of the new McLaren GT 570S GT4 raced by Team Ecurie Ecosse. A beautiful car if there was ever one to behold (see image below). The day followed with sessions from GT3 and F4. The Press Conference attracted a lot of attention and was opened by the Chairman of SRO, Stephane Ratel followed by the sponsors, team managers and drivers. One surprise to the day was the guest driver for Beechdean - Mr Paul Hollywood (better known for his culinary endeavours, he showed his metal on the track).
